Decide the purpose of the video
Write one sentence describing what you want to show and to whom. A short introduction and a longer explanation need different scenes and aspect ratios.
Prepare the project and media
Create a project and import your videos, images and music. Keep the original files in a separate folder. Choosing an aspect ratio now can save you from reframing scenes later.
Make a rough cut
Place the scenes in order on the timeline. Focus on the story before adding effects. Remove long pauses and repeated material first.
Add captions and sound
Summarize key information with captions and add music at a low volume. Listen for words that the music masks, then adjust the balance.
Watch the whole thing from the beginning
Watch familiar scenes as though you were seeing them for the first time. Look for caption typos, gaps between clips and sudden changes in volume.
Export the finished video
Choose output settings for the intended use. Once export finishes, play the resulting file and check its opening, ending and audio.
